The founders of CLIFF EDGE PICTURES, CRAIG ROBERTS, ADRIAN BATE and PIP BROUGHTON have long and successful track records in the industry, and are passionate about developing and producing quality, thought provoking content.
The team collaborate to develop, raise finance and produce film and television projects creatively led by Roberts as both a writer and director.
The first project on the Cliff Edge slate was Roberts' highly anticipated second feature film, ETERNAL BEAUTY, starring Sally Hawkins, David Thewlis, Billie Piper and Alice Lowe. Penned by Roberts, ETERNAL BEAUTY was filmed in his native Wales and was released in select cinemas and on demand in the UK on 2 October 2020.
Next up is the comedy-horror, THE SCURRY, starring Rhys Ifans and Ella Purnell. Written by Tim Telling, the project is a co-production with Water and Power Productions. The feature film is due for cinematic release in 2025.

Craig Roberts, director, writer, producer, co-founder
Craig is a British actor, director, writer and producer who has built an impressive body of work spanning television and film. He first caught the industry’s attention with his breakout role in Submarine, for which he won the BAFTA Cymru Award for ‘Best Actor’, the London Critics Circle Film Award for ‘Young British Performer of the Year’ and was nominated at the 2011 British Independent Film Awards in the category of ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ and at the 2012 Empire Awards for ‘Best Male Newcomer’.
He carefully applies his unique and brilliant creativity to each project he takes on and continues to distinguish himself as one of the most exciting young filmmakers working today.
His debut feature as both writer and director was JUST JIM starring Emile Hirsch with Adrian and Pip as producers. ETERNAL BEAUTY followed in 2020, premiering at the BFI London Film Festival and winning a BAFTA Cymru Best Film award.
Craig has a number of writing projects in development and is currently in post-production with Cliff Edge’s next feature, THE SCURRY.
Adrian Bate, producer, co-founder
Adrian has produced and delivered over 100 hours of Primetime Drama to all the major broadcasters in the UK working with a range of talent both in front of and behind the camera. He has co-produced with other European territories and the US. Previously Adrian ran the Film & TV division of Zenith Entertainment and has Produced and Executive Produced for both Independent Producers and Broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and Sky 1. Award winning drama produced by Adrian includes: Cider With Rosie, Affinity, Two Thousand Acres Of Sky, Little Crackers and was awarded the David Puttnam Producer’s Award.
Adrian jointly produced Craig Roberts’ directing debut theatrical feature film JUST JIM – released in September 2015. Through Vox, Adrian exec-produced three series of KEEPING FAITH in 2017, 2019 and 2020. In 2018, Adrian produced THE NHS: TO PROVIDE ALL PEOPLE, and Craig Roberts' second directorial feature, ETERNAL BEAUTY, via Vox's sister company, Cliff Edge Pictures. Adrian was a Producer on Vox’s single drama for BBC1, THE TRICK, released in 2021, exec-produces on both series of DAL Y MELLT for S4C and is producing Craig Roberts’ upcoming comedy-horror THE SCURRY.
Pip Broughton, director, writer, producer, co-founder
For 15 years Pip worked as a theatre director, including Artistic Directorships of Croydon Warehouse, Paines Plough and Nottingham Playhouse.
Since 1995 Pip has been working in film and television as director and producer. As producer Pip was instrumental in the development of the Sky Playhouse season and produced 17 of the series, working with first-time directors Idris Elba, Matt Smith and Polly Stenham; and acting talent including Juliet Stevenson, Stephen Fry, Stellan Skarsgaad, Ben Whishaw, David Harewood, Emma Thompson; and writers Frank McGuinness, Mark Ravenhill, Jeremy Brock, Paul O’Grady, Rebecca Lenkiewicz and Sandi Toksvig.
Directing work has included several single films for Channel 4 and primetime drama series for both ITV and BBC. She jointly produced Craig Roberts’ directing debut theatrical feature film JUST JIM. She directed the acclaimed, Bafta-nominated television film version of UNDER MILK WOOD for BBC with Michael Sheen, Sir Tom Jones, Jonathan Pryce and others; and in 2016, the Bafta-winning ABERFAN, THE GREEN HOLLOW by Owen Sheers. The programme received unanimous acclaim and earned the BBC's highest audience approval rating in five years.
Pip was the lead producer and director on all three series of the BBC1/S4C drama series, KEEPING FAITH. The drama earned record viewing figures on iPlayer, sales in every major territory and two Bafta-Cymru awards. The same year, Pip reunited with Owen Sheers to direct, TO PROVIDE ALL PEOPLE, which aired on BBCOne Wales and BBC2 to wide critical acclaim. Pip directed Vox’s 2021 single drama for BBC1, THE TRICK and is currently writing for several projects in funded development.
